Kanada Alevi Meclisi
An association has been established under the name "Canada Alevi Assembly". The official name of the association is "Canada Alevi Assembly" (CAA) in English and "Kanada Alevi Meclisi" (KAM) in Turkish.
The headquarters of the association is located in Toronto, Ontario.
The association may open branches within Canada where necessary, provided that required permissions are obtained from authorized public authorities.
The association emblem is circular and contains the wording "Canadian Alevi Assembly" on the outer frame and "Kanada Alevi Meclisi" at the bottom. In the center there is a stylized red semah figure, with green maple leaves symbolizing Canada on both sides.
Recognized founders of the association are Ali Kartal, Hüseyin Tanrıkulu, and İlker Öztürk. The association was established by individuals with long-standing democratic Alevi advocacy.
The association aims to carry out work based on humanitarian, cultural, and social values. Its primary goals include preserving, promoting, and transferring Anatolian Alevi belief and culture to future generations, especially the intellectual legacy of Pir Sultan Abdal.
Protecting universal values such as democracy, secularism, rule of law, human rights, and freedoms is among the core objectives of the association.
Canada Alevi Assembly (CAA) represents both individual and institutional members in relations with public institutions, legal entities, and third parties. CAA promotes the core belief and cultural traditions of Alevism to the Canadian public.
Canada Alevi Assembly encourages members to live together peacefully and with tolerance alongside people of different religions, cultures, and ethnic backgrounds.
CAA works to meet the religious, cultural, and social needs of members and supports healthy integration into Canadian society while preserving Alevi religious identity and cultural heritage.
The association contributes to environmental protection under the guidance of Alevi teachings and supports sports activities.
CAA promotes sub-organizations such as women, youth, and sports clubs to achieve its goals and expand its activities.
Individuals aged 18 or above may apply for membership if they meet CAA criteria, adopt the association’s aims and principles, and agree to contribute actively.
Individuals under 18 may apply when they wish to join cultural and artistic activities, provided they submit written parental consent and receive management approval.
Eligibility is assessed through a short interview that measures basic Alevi knowledge.
The following documents must be submitted at an acceptable level: • Canada Alevi Assembly Membership Application Form • Turkish Republic ID Card or Passport • Provincial Driver’s License (Canada) • Proof of Residence Document • Active membership certificate from an Alevi organization • Passport-style photo taken within the last 6 months
Members must act in accordance with the association’s aims and principles and pay dues and financial obligations on time.
Membership may be terminated in cases of conduct contrary to the association’s principles, non-payment of dues for 3 months, or behavior violating ethical rules.
Canada Alevi Assembly (CAA) consists of central administration and branches. Main bodies are: • General Headquarters Executive Board • General Headquarters Audit Board • Branch Executive Boards • Women, Youth, and Culture Commissions
The General Assembly is the highest decision-making body. All members have equal voting rights.
Ordinary General Assembly meetings are held once every two (2) years.
Executive boards consist of a president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, and members.
Each board serves for two (2) years. The same person may serve as president for a maximum of two consecutive terms.
